TEAS to Require 2-Factor Authentication for Logins

Starting on October 26, the USPTO will tighten login requirements to access and file TEAS applications. Users will be required to log in using a uspto.gov account and use a phone number or authenticator application to verify their identities.

Applications will also time out after 30 minutes of inactivity, and inputted information will not be saved.

The change comes after the USPTO reported last month that “bad actors” were changing correspondent and attorney of record contact information on existing filings.

To simplify TEAS applications and ensure that application information is saved, Alt Legal users can use Forms. Forms will save application information and allow TEAS applications to be filled out with just a few clicks. For more information, please contact us at help@altlegal.com or using our chat.

The Alt Legal team is in touch with the USPTO to ensure that our TEAS toolbar supports the changed filing process. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more details.
